Good Luck. Bad Luck, Do they really come in threes?

My Husband and I went to Tennessee for a job in December, I had the stomach flu the last few days we were there.  My niece was caregiving for Mom while we were gone.  Picture 056

The day after we got home there was a fire in an apartment above my Mothers apt.  My niece got her out of there and from the looks of things once we could get in to salvage what we could; I do believe she saved my Moms’ life! Mom is usually here with me and I had not picked her up at that time.

The phone was ringing and my niece got out of bed to answer it, smelled smoke , heard an apartment alarm going off but not the main alarm for the building.  (The phone call had been a wrong number, Hmm, maybe that phone call had been sent by?)  She heard activity in the hallway and checked to see what was happening. Fire fighters told her to get out and she immediately got her Grandmother dressed, over her night-clothes, threw on her warm shoes and a coat then left the building! The weather was very cold with frigid winds and they left without Moms’ insulin and other medications. That’s ok because they were safe!

My niece had borrowed our truck while we were out-of-town and the driver’s side door had somehow been damaged and would not close.  My husband had to drive it home with the window down and hold it shut with his hand!

Was that number three and is it over for the year?  I can’t say that I believe in luck, good or bad but if it could be true, I hope the rest of this year goes by without mishap!

I still need to go through my Mothers things, sort and pitch what is not salvageable.  We had to get what we could out of the apartment with no lights so we grabbed what was not wet but it is stored in my garage and it is damp in there.  Wish me luck?  Well, maybe just Best wishes!

What Do You Really Want?

What do you really want? I want love and the means to take care of my family. I have very little time or money! Sound familiar? The problem with my situation is; I’m a caregiver to my Mom and my Husband and I don’t have the time to make money but I do have the love so that keeps me going!

I have spent more money on scams, trying to make money from home on the net. The sad thing is I know I am not the only one! I am a hard worker, love my family and pets. I just keep on trying to get by and it is so irritating to be duped so many times just trying to care for my loved ones. I know, if it sound too good to be true, we’ll you know the rest. Anyway I am still trying so wish me luck and any sound advice or criticism, send my way!

I have started a site called Caregiver Blues and from the comments I have received I guess it isn’t too bad, but wouldn’t you know it? I have made no money from it and the site is down again. Sometimes it is depressing!  I’ll keep on trying but I have nothing more to pay out so I’ll just keep plucking along with what I have and hope for the best. Thanks for listening to my ramblings, I’m sure I’ll be more positive on my next post. Well, Maybe.

UTI’S and Supplements

Oregano (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Before I took over as caregiver for my Mother she was constantly getting urinary tract infections. She has been with me for almost two years now and has had only two UTI’s. I started her on a vitamin regimen consisting of a good women’s vitamin blend, Cranberry supplements, and extra vitamin C along with Pro-biotic and oil of Oregano. She takes these supplements with food just to ensure no upset stomach. She is also taking alfalfa supplements.
Mother still gets a galled bottom from time to time from yeast infections but I get a jump on healing this with silver cream externally and colloidal silver internally so it really doesn’t have a chance to grow. The Oil of Oregano is antibacterial and does a wonderful job of keeping these infections under control. You can get the oregano in a gel cap or in bottle with a dropper. I like the gel caps because the taste is not that great! If you get a chance read up on Oregano it is great for Candida and Fungal Skin Conditions and has wonderful healing properties for a variety of different ailments including inflammation. Mom is telling my sister that she should be taking these supplements. Mom is still taking prescription medications but her physician has cut back on her blood pressure and cholesterol medicine. He said, “She is amazing,” and shook his head in wonderment!
Being a caregiver for my elderly Mother has taken some adjustments for both of us. I am still learning through trial and error the things I should and should not be doing.
In the beginning I wanted to do everything for her and before long I realized that I was setting myself up for a quick caregiver breakdown!
Do not hinder. If they can do some things for themselves, let them. I know you and I can get the same thing done faster and more efficiently but we need to let them help themselves while they can. Encourage them; they need that as much as we do so let them keep their dignity as long as possible.

Bel Marra Health Reports on a New Study: Negative and Traumatic Memories May Soon Be Able to Be Erased Using New Science

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) January 28, 2013

Bel Marra Health, well known for offering high-quality, specially formulated vitamins and nutritional supplements, is reporting on a new study that outlines how traumatic memories could soon be erased using a new science.

As Bel Marra Health reports in its article (, Karim Nader created a traumatic memory in rats by putting them in an isolation cubicle, playing a tone and then delivering a small electrical shock to their feet.

After creating the initial traumatic memory, the rat associates the tone with an unpleasant experience. After this initial traumatic experience, when the rat hears the tone it freezes, showing fear. The next step in Naders experiment involved placing the rat back in the isolation chamber and playing the tone which brings the traumatic memory back. Nader then experiments with drugs that are responsible for blocking chemical processes that are responsible for restoring memories, which is a normal brain function.

This allows the old traumatic memory to be replaced by the new memory of the tone with no electrical shock. The rat is then placed back in the isolation cubicle where the tone is once again played. The rat no longer has a reaction of fear to the sound as his traumatic memory seems to have been replaced by a new one.

As the Bel Marra Health article reads, the point of this research is to see if its possible to erase memories in a rat. Additionally, Nader states that memories can become un-stored, altered and strengthened.

Understanding all of the chemical processes that are part of normal brain function, including the chemical processes involved in memory is important for understanding new treatment options that may be beneficial for individuals suffering from bad memories.

Spokesperson for Bel Marra Health Dr. Victor Marchione says, There are many diseases that negatively affect brain function and diminish brain health. These disorders include: dementia, Alzheimers disease, schizophrenia and PTSD, among others. Nader believes that memory disruption; similar to what was shown in his recent research, may help to treat various mental health disorders.

The findings from Karim Naders research are supported by research conducted by Thomas Agren, who is a doctoral candidate at Uppsala University. Agren found that it was possible to erase newly formed memories from the human brain.
